What do we do with personal identifying information provided during account registration?

NALMS’s Secchi Dip-In will use the personal identifying information which you provide for the expressed purpose of registration to NALMS’s Secchi Dip-In site and for updating and correcting information in internal NALMS Secchi Dip-In databases as necessary. NALMS’s Secchi Dip-In will not make this information available for other purposes unless required by law. NALMS’s Secchi Dip-In does not sell or otherwise transfer personal information to an outside third party for purposes outside of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA).

What do we do with data submitted by volunteers?

Once submitted, measurement data (e.g. Secchi disk depths) is available for access & use by the general public. Data submitted to the Secchi Dip-In database may be presented at conferences, symposiums, and/or other public meetings. Aforementioned data may also be submitted to EPA’s STORET data warehouse and/or WQX. Unless otherwise pre-arranged with a specific volunteer, measurement data will be unconnected to information personally identifying volunteers.

Do we use photos shared by volunteers?

We ask volunteers to sign a basic photo release agreement or provide written approval (e.g. via e-mail) for their photos to be used by NALMS’s Secchi Dip-In program. To request a copy of the current photo release agreement, e-mail secchidipin@nalms.org.
